Antique 1913 Grant County Fair Ribbon Winning Farmer Doll First Premium Oregon

Description

The doll measures approximately 12 inches long.  The stand seen in a few pictures is not included.
Box measures approximately 15 x 4 x 2 inches.
Overall GOOD condition for for being over 100 years old.
This wonderful doll, box, and note are a fun time capsule explaining an entry made in a 1913 Oregon’s Grant County Fair.
This collection includes the following:
• Antique “farmer” doll: She has a porcelain head with beautifully painted face. She is dressed in tattered clothes and fabric patches from old tobacco sacks. The doll’s head has an old break running thru the neck, with evidence of an old and crude repair attempt.
She is missing her right hand.
Reading the note later in this description explains what had happened to the doll.
• Silk ribbon for the 1913 fifth annual county fair. The ribbon shows considerable signs of wear but still displays nicely.
• A Handwritten note says the following:
For Ardis
This doll went to the county fair.  It was dressed as a farmer by Mother and Bessie.  He had a felt hat, a dish towel, and a Heinz pickle.  The dish towel said "My wife went to the fair but she forget the prize cucumber, so I'm taking it."
Note the patches, shirt, and missing fasteners.
He won first prize and fifty cents.  He was mailed home, but the package got smashed.  The fifty cents was missing, also his hat and dish towel.  The teacher who had taken the doll to the fair also sent the fifty cents.
The doll appears to be stuffed with sawdust and as a result makes a bit of a mess when she is handled. The bulk of her “stuffing” seems to still be present.
Displays beautifully.
